Well, another wedding completed – a nice simple theme of lilac and cream – I think sometimes the simpler the prettier! It’s lovely being involved in such a special day, even if it just in a little way.
Now, a wedding theme that wasn’t quite so simple – and had to be turned around quite quickly – was the Mad Hatters Wedding Top cake and cupcakes for a wedding at Painshill Park, Cobham. It was great getting creative and coming up with the designs but particularly the top cake, complete with Mad Hatters Top Hat – you’ll never guess what I crafted the sugarpaste around to keep the shape! 😉 Anyway, the groom specifically wanted a banana and rum giant cake so that’s what he got.. I pricked the cake and then soaked it with a warm rum and sugar mix so that it stayed deliciously moist and topped the cake off with toasted pecans… yum! Apparently, it was such a hit that even the bride who never eats cake, ate a slice and the taxi driver whisking them away on their honeymoon was invited to share a piece too.
Sadly, I had to leave the cakes there early so never got to see them looking resplendent on their cake stands but I had a wonderful message from the mother of the bride full of thanks and words of praise so that made my day.
